Summary
The Manager of Logistics is responsible for all aspects of the global, inter and intra-region transport of all materials and Finished Goods. The Manager accomplishes goals through the strategic management and oversight of 3rd-party resources that provide transportation, freight forwarding, customs clearance and freight audit and payment.
The ideal resource will have logistics experience with raw materials and finished goods, domestic and international experience to include tariffs, harmonized tariff code, declarations/taxes, domestic shipping methods (ie UPS), LTL, international air/ocean freight, etc., large volume experience with inbound and outbound freight is required (ie UPS spend is $1+mm, international logistics experience, experience with freight forwarding or an international customs broker.
Major Responsibilities:
Models global transportation network and designs creative solutions to ensure that optimal modes, routes and lanes are used in transport.
Manages domestic and international freight payables with 3rd party service provider. Works with IT to build electronic interfaces with all freight providers to ensure pricing from the 3rd party is optimized.
Maintains global transportation tariffs, acts as interface between carrier and freight payment to resolve billing issues, and prepares monthly accrual report for finance. Tracks, trends and performs monthly analysis of data to drive process improvement.
Manages all claims from initial filing through recovery/resolution.
Coordinates shipping activities with internal/external customers, field sales/distribution/carriers. Grants access to on-line shipping. Ensures transit of white glove or temperature sensitive deliveries on high value shipments. Collaborates within co. to instill overall transport knowledge and ensure that all transport channels through appropriate channels for freight optimization.
Tracks and traces shipments with 3rd party software, obtaining Proof of Delivery where required.
Responsible for interpreting international and domestic laws, rules and regulations regarding shipping and applications for import/export control certifications and licenses.
Ensures all documentation is in place for 3rd party providers to effectively transport goods.
Determines new shipping accommodations for new product launches and subsequent production.
Develops and maintains daily/weekly/monthly reports for Key Performance Indicators; Perfect Order Index, Monthly Fuel Surcharge Report, etc.
Works with Demand Planning and S&OP in order to ensure transport supports in-transit and distribution centers’ inventory.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Business, Engineering, Logistics or related field
Minimum of 8 years experience in managing global transportation across regions and corresponding border entries
Ability to collaborate with external transport providers.
Ability to collaborate internally to understand product needs and plans for supply chain network design.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access databases
Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with internal customers, external suppliers and fellow team members at all levels
Must possess solid verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment.
Ability to work effectively and exercise sound business judgment in a team environment, as well as independently
Ability to deal effectively with all employees and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service-oriented attitude
Previous experience with network modeling and Transportation Management Systems (TMS) a plus
Knowledge of reverse logistics and packaging directives as well as international laws that govern the discipline a plus
Six Sigma training/certification preferred a plus
